Well timeline has certainly been permanently altered. It was already too late for Spock to change the future … even though he had saved Vulcan … because Nero already came back 25 years earlier and changed it since … killing Kirk's father, for example. The whole premise was brilliant, because future sequels … and it is hard to believe there will be no … can take any direction they want, when characters have all new futures.
