The Oprah Magazine Subscriptions

Oprah is a very powerful person, and has worked hard to get where she is, but I stopped to watch her program every day and dropped my subscription to her magazine, when she openly supported Obama. Now She has put his support behind the DC rally Jon Stewart held in late October. I just want to hear from conservatives … Will you continue to support Oprah? Just Askin '
When she used her celebrity status to go out on the campaign trail for Obama, I stopped seeing her show. I never got her magazine in the first place and now I never will. I used to like her and would watch her show a few times a week, but when she decided to use his influence on the way, that was it for me. She moved down in my opinion after that, and I think she is what I would refer to as a "user". I think this woman has collected astonishing power and influence over people and that it is totally wrong of her to go out in public for any politician. She lost my respect completely. She is trash, what I call TV trash. She sold out. Has nothing to do with her race, by the way. Matt Damon went on television and was interviewed spoke out against Sarah Palin. Excuse me? Since when does being a great actor doing you an educated authority on politics? He is a nice guy, nice and a great actor, but he has no business putting his popularity "out there" as Oprah did. I am not a Palin fan, either, and would not vote for her but for him to go out there on TV and say things like that, just very very bad. This affects those in which the young voters who just do not think for themselves. When there is a public person out there that makes it seem so appealing, it's just wrong. It is, again, being a "user". I have not seen a Damon movie since he did it, and I have not seen Oprah. Both disgust me. If a conservative did the same, I'd write them out as well. If I were a public figure and as popular as these people (and others), I'd keep my political opinions to myself. I would certainly support causes such as helping homeless people or people with cancer and so publicly, but I will not go out and support a candidate. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Thanks for asking. Felt good to vote this opinion.

Oprah $22.95 Today on Oprah , intoned the TV announcer, and all over America viewers tuned in to learn, empathize, and celebrate. In this book, Kathryn Lofton investigates the Oprah phenomenon and finds in Winfrey’s empireHarpo Productions, O Magazine , and her new television networkan uncanny reflection of religion in modern society. Lofton shows that when Oprah liked, needed, or believed something, she offered her audience nothing less than spiritual revolution, reinforced by practices that fuse consumer behavior, celebrity ambition, and religious idiom. In short, Oprah Winfrey is a media messiah for a secular age. Lofton’s unique approach also situates the Oprah enterprise culturally, illuminating how Winfrey reflects and continues historical patterns of American religions. |
