How do you handle your grocer's for a month? I subscribe to Rachel Ray and Taste of Home Magazines .. and always find good recipes that do not require many more ingrediants than we have in stock in the pantry. We have $ 300 dollars a month for groceries, for a family of fifth (Alothough many nights we end up feeding more-when family memebers stop) I just wanted to the grocery store one time a month, but it is not working, because fruit / veggies dont stay fresh .. So I should start walking more a month. How do you plan it? Do you go once a week? once every two weeks? Once a months? Also, how to plan meals and stick to your budget. I think that when I come up with meals for every night of the week each month that no matter how cheap I try and keep the-money and groceries covers only dinner and then we end up skimping on lunch-no big deal during the week while the kids are in school, but on weekends it's more of a problem. So what are some ideas / tips for me?
Okay here is how I do it: 1) I clip coupons, 2) I see on sale at the my grocery store … I like to match coupons to sale items (this can save big $ $, especially when double coupons – ex. I regularly get brand name cereal to $ 1.50 a box when it is regularly $ 4 a box. This week I actually got paid to buy my yogurt – 80 cent yogurt, 50 cents coupon doubled to a U.S. dollars !)… I also look at what the meat and products are for sale. 3) I make a menu for week 4) I do my shopping list after the sale ad, coupons, and my menu 5) I am groceries once a week. (For my family of four I typically spend $ 50 – $ 75) for weekend lunches, I like to keep things like sandwich fixings, frozen corndogs (when I can get a good deal on them), canned soup, and eggs. When I run out of a "short" I put it on my shopping list right away … that way I remember when grocery day. Hope this helps!
